A Historic Sale with a Life-Changing Purpose

Back in December of 2021, I had the privilege of facilitating the sale of a remarkable property — not just for its fascinating history, but for the profound purpose it now serves.

This 1879 historic home was built by Alexander Lawton, a prominent figure who served as a U.S. Ambassador to Austria-Hungary, a Confederate General in the Civil War, and both the President of the American Railroad Association and the American Bar Association.

Adding to its storied past, it was later home to Ty Cobb, the legendary Georgia-born baseball player widely regarded as one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history. Nicknamed “The Georgia Peach”, was one of Major League Baseball’s greatest players of all time.

One interesting feature is that all of previous residents of this historic home are featuring on the staircase risers.

Once Home To Ty Cobb

Today, this special property is known as Lawton Place Manor, a Respite Care Center for Caregivers. What makes it truly extraordinary, though, is its role as a Respite Care Center for Caregivers. It is only about 1.5 hours north of the metro Atlanta area in Mt. Airy, Georgia

What is Respite Care?

Respite care provides short-term rest and relief for primary caregivers — those who give so much of themselves, often becoming tired, stretched thin, and burned out. Lawton Place Manor offers caregivers a much-needed place to rest, recover, and restore their emotional and physical well-being.

Think of it as a focused, affordable B&B for caregivers, surrounded by like-minded individuals who understand the challenges they face and also face some of those same challenges themselves.

Why It Matters

This one hit close to home for me. Like so many other families, mine could have benefited from a place like this more than once. I’ve also seen firsthand how caregivers, often selflessly caring for loved ones, can struggle to find a moment to breathe, to rest, and to relax in quaint, quiet, peaceful setting..

If you know a caregiver in need of rest and restoration, I encourage you to learn more and share this information with them:

Who’s Eligible?
